Shek Kip Mei Jockey Club Creative Arts Centre | The Ruin & The Ripples Exhibition
Description
The flow of water records the passage of time. Centred around the concept of water, this exhibition contrasts documentary photography of the former Sham Shui Po Service Reservoir with abstract prints produced in the darkroom. One series captures water under restraint, while the other reveals its fluidity. Between limitation and movement, the artist grips onto fading memories while quietly probing into uncharted dimensions.
About the Artist
Maria Cheung graduated with a Bachelor of Arts (Fine Art), majoring in photography, from the Royal Melbourne Institute of Technology (RMIT). She was awarded the Dean's List and the 1a Space Artist Residency Award.
Cheung's artistic practice stems from her drive to preserve and explore historical perspectives in everyday life, capturing time as it slips by. Through various photographic techniques and mediums, her work conveys her emotional connections and memories tied to people, places, and objects. Embracing impermanence, she finds beauty in imperfection and traces the steady erosion of time.
